Why Decentralisation Matters

Bitcoin runs in thousands of places, yet no single place controls it.
The Reading
Ask where Bitcoin lives. There is no headquarters, no central computer and no president who can be pressured, replaced or persuaded. Bitcoin lives wherever someone chooses to run its software.
A node may sit inside a data centre. Another may run on a computer in a garage, a bedroom, an office or a workshop. These machines belong to different people who may never meet. Public crawlers currently detect more than 26,000 reachable Bitcoin nodes. The real number is higher because many operate privately, behind home routers or through hidden networks. No complete list exists. That uncertainty is part of the strength. There is no map showing one place where Bitcoin can be captured.
Each full node receives proposed transactions and blocks, checks them and shares what it accepts. Turn one off and Bitcoin continues. Close a company and Bitcoin continues. Restrict it in one country and copies of the record remain elsewhere. A government can regulate businesses. It can block websites, seize equipment or make access difficult. What it cannot do is send one command that closes every independently operated node across the world.
Bitcoin is not one machine pretending to be a network. It is one network living through tens of thousands of independent machines. Bitcoin does not remain alive because one copy is untouchable. It remains alive because there is no single copy anyone can reach. There is no throne to seize and no master switch to capture.
You are not standing on one institution. You are standing on a monetary network spread across the planet.
