Imagine saving ten dollars from a day’s work. You cannot make another hour of that day. It is gone. Yet more dollars can be created. Dollars have no fixed final total. Bitcoin does: 21 million. Not for one country. Not for one generation. For the whole network, across all the years ahead.
Satoshi announced that ceiling in 2009. A new block of transactions arrives about every ten minutes on average. At first, each block allowed 50 new bitcoin, rewarding the work of building the shared record. Every 210,000 blocks, roughly four years, that allowance halves: 50, then 25, then 12.5 bitcoin per block. The average block time stays the same. The new coins decrease. These shrinking additions eventually stop, keeping the total below 21 million.
Who makes that limit hold? Computers around the world check the rules and reject blocks claiming extra coins. Someone can edit their software, but cannot make computers following the existing rules accept the change. The number is not protected by one person’s promise. People can check it for themselves.
We can build more houses and mine more gold. Bitcoin’s supply grows towards a fixed ceiling. Even a small fraction is part of that limited total. More demand cannot raise the ceiling. Its price can vary, but no single person can order everyone to accept extra coins. That is what makes the number matter.

Now imagine twice as many people want bitcoin. What happens to the 21 million? Nothing.
Imagine more banks, more businesses, more countries want some. Still 21 million.
They can buy from someone willing to sell. They cannot order the ceiling higher.
Now ask yourself: when more people want something, must we make more of it? Or could we share a fixed amount in smaller pieces?
